After finding out that my simple Java app takes 60 megabytes of memory just doing nothing (which is almost as much memory as LXDE uses), I'm thinking of writing it in C# instead. How is C# on linux? Are the cross-platform GUI toolkits decent? How about the IDEs (since I can't use visual studio)? Didn't Microsoft open source a lot of stuff related to C#?
After getting a pi for Christmas and later discovering that there are boards such as the ODROID C1 that are much more powerful and only for about $10 more...I'm sort of having a bit of buyers remorse at least for thinking that the pi was the only type of small arm board that can run linux. Now I am questioned with why do people even buy the Pi (unless they did not know like me) when the ODROID C1 is so much better? Do they go for Pi because of how its philosophy or something? Software wise I'd say it's the same...you can install arch Linux on both and arch pretty much has almost all of the packages you need (aur as well).
I have a late 2012 Mac Book Pro Retina. I am kinda over OSX, I hate the appstore updates and the idea of an apple id, my computer is starting to feel clunky from lots of use and installations and no cleaning up of unused files and programs. I feel it is time for a change. I have been thinking about installing Linux on if for some time now since I seen a few articles talking about it. I was considering Fedora with either KDE or XFCE desktop as those are what I have experience with. I am looking for some words of encouragement and maybe swift kick in the right direction towards making the switch. I am at the point of no return; a stepping off point. Please share with me your thought, experience, and recommendations.
